Ashton Gate School Street
This week Knowle West Media Centre came into school to work with children and help design what our school street initiative at the Ashton site might look like.

Message from Future Places
There is also a chance for EY & KS1 parents to be involved. Join us on Tuesday 23rd June to imagine what Ashton Gate Rd could look like in future. How can we improve the look, feel and safety of the road outside of the Ashton Site?
Future Places AR is an engagement activity that offers you the chance to imagine the future of your neighbourhood and uses technology to bring it to life.
Using Augmented Reality (like in Pokémon GO) and devices that allow you to see and hear through time, you will get to experience your ‘school street’ as you’d like it to be in future.
As we talk and come up with ideas together, what you imagine will appear around you, drawn over the landscape of today. Using immersive sound, you’ll also get to hear what it might sound like.
This is part of the South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood Programme.

KS2 Calm Area
Ruben in Year 6 and his mum kindly donated a series of butterfly pavement markings which now create a beautiful pathway into the KS2 Calm Area in the Upton playground.
The designs were created by Ruben’s dad, Marcus, whose colourful artwork can also be seen brightening sections of the Bristol to Bath Railway Path and other areas around Bristol. Marcus’s creativity brightened pathways and roads across our city, and we are honoured that a small part of his legacy now has a permanent home at our school.
We would like to thank Ruben and his mum for their generosity in sharing these beautiful designs with us. The butterflies will be enjoyed by children for many years to come and will become a special feature of the playground for the Ashton Gate School community.

PTA News
Welcome Back
We hope you all had a lovely Half Term and made the most of the amazing weather, which seems to have gone off on a holiday of its own this last week! Summer Fair Volunteers – Your PTA Needs You!
We start off with a HUGE thanks again to everyone that has volunteered for a slot at our Summer Fair since we first announced it. While the numbers are creeping up, we still need another push for more helpers, especially in the afternoon.
We know there is a lot happening around this time of year, but if you are able to attend and you think you can spare an hour then please do sign up for a slot.
We know we say it a lot, but without your support we aren’t able to run these events, so while we’re feeling confident we should reach out target number, without some additional volunteers we’re a little worried about if we can pull it all off.
Stalls will be allocated a few days before the fair.
Cuddly and Cake Donations
We’re still taking donations for our Rehome a Cuddly stall, so if you have any cuddly toys that would love a new home you can donate them and we’ll help them find one!
Are you a home baker that would like to donate to our cake stall? Each year we receive some fantastic home baked cakes and cookies to help raise money for the school, so if you would like to donate then please do! Just bring them along with you
on the day.
Summer Fair Raffle
As is tradition for our summer fair your PTA has been hitting the up the local business for donations for our summer raffle, and as usual we are pulling together a get set of prizes for this year’s event. Tickets can be purchased online by following this link:
Thank You
We know we ask a lot, but it’s all driven by our mission to help support the school as much as we can…and we can’t do it without you. So we want to sign off again with a MASSIVE thank you. Big or small, all your support goes towards making such an important impact on the school and all our kids.

Alzheimer’s Community Support Session
Early next term we are working with Bristol Dementia Wellbeing service who are a partnership between Alzheimer’s Society and the NHS. They will be running assemblies on both sites and are offering a parent/carers session on 2nd June. See details below
Parent/carer session Upton Site KS2
Tuesday 2nd June 2026 · 9:00am – 10:00am
Dementia Friends is a social action movement aimed at enabling communities to be more dementia-friendly. The Dementia Friends session is an interactive 60-minute session, deepening knowledge and understanding of the condition, considering how dementia may impact on undertaking daily tasks and how this can be supported.
The session will be led by Sally Townsend (Community Development Coordinator for Schools) and supported by Alice Phipps (Dementia Support Worker) from Bristol Dementia Wellbeing Service (a partnership between Alzheimer’s Society and NHS).
Further information and support will also be available. This session supports the age-appropriate assemblies that the children will be taking part in.

School Transitions
Attendance at Ashton Gate Primary School
Regular school attendance is one of the best ways to help your child succeed. When children come to school every day, they keep up with their learning, build confidence in their skills, and develop good routines that set them up for the future. Every day at school matters—it helps your child stay on track and get the most out of their education.

It is also important to arrive at school on time. If a child arrives late to school every day, their learning begins to suffer. Below is a graph showing how being late to school every day over a school year adds up to lost learning time over one academic year.

Lunch Ordering
Please remember to order your child’s lunch before 10pm on a Wednesday. If your child only has a meal once a week, you will still need to book this.
We are still having a lot of children who do not have a lunch booked with no packed lunch. Please remember the default meal is always salad bar. No other option will be available.
Please remember not to order a school lunch if your child is on a school trip, where a packed lunch is required. If you have already booked a meal for this date, the meal can be cancelled by the payer until 10pm on a Wednesday for the following week. As all food is pre-ordered there will be no refunds issued for non-cancelled meals.
Nut Free School
A reminder that we are a nut free school. Please do not send your child to school with snacks/packed lunch with items containing nuts. This includes items such as Pesto, filled crepes and chocolate spread.
Social Media
We are now on Facebook. Please like our page, we will be using this page to celebrate events and learning moments taking place across the school. We encourage you to invite other parents and family members to join as well, so that too can be part of our vibrant school network. Rest assured, our Facebook page will prioritise the privacy and security of our children. We will follow all the necessary precautions and guidelines to protect identities and ensure a safe online environment.
Recording Absences
Studybugs is no longer in use. Please record any illnesses/medical appointments using the Arbor parent portal app. For planned absences please complete the online form on the attendance page of our website.
