Mrs Winfield
This term we celebrate Sue Winfield’s remarkable 25 years employment at Ashton Gate. Recognised by both The Trust and Bristol City Council, Sue’s commitment has touched the lives of countless children and families. She has been a constant, positive presence, and is incredibly popular with pupils, parents and colleagues. In recent years in particular, her work in Key Stage 1 has helped nurture not just learning, but confidence and joy in the classroom. Thank you, Sue, for your exceptional service and dedication to our school community.
Painting – Ashton Dinner Hall
Do we have any professional painters and decorators in our school community? Are you a dab hand with a paintbrush? If we gave you a roller, could you use it?
Our Reception hall is in need of a paint and sadly we do not have funds to pay for it as there is so much needed to keep the fabric of the building in shape. If we provide the paint and tools, would you give up a few hours of your time on Sunday the 18th of October to make a real difference to our school?
If so, please sign up here to join the painting party.

Amazon Wishlist
We have had a very kind donation from Riverside Garden Centre of plants and compost. However, we are still in need of more compost. We realise this is heavy to carry into school so have added it to our Amazon wishlist. We would really appreciate any donations received.

PTA News
PTA AGM + Drink & Chat
Thu 1 Oct, 7:30–9:30pm @ Bristol Beer Factory
Spoiler alert: We need new volunteers or the PTA can’t continue into 2026/27. Please join us for a relaxed chat, and to meet other parents who help shape the fun stuff we do for Ashton Gate kids.
Last year we ran: Film Night | Christmas Fair | Tree Sales | 6 Nations Night | Quiz Night | Summer Fair | School Discos
And we helped fund: Calm Space | Forest School | Book Corners | Discos | Tennis Balls | Playground Chalks | Amazon Wishlist
Lots of PTA members’ kids graduated last year. Without new volunteers, the PTA simply won’t exist!
As well as general members, some specific roles we need are: Chair | Treasurer | Secretary | Newsletter | WhatsApp Group | Website
No experience needed. Events are run by small teams, so no one is left doing too much. We only meet once or twice a term, so it isn’t much commitment. Hope to see you there!

Attendance at Ashton Gate Primary School
Regular school attendance is one of the best ways to help your child succeed. When children come to school every day, they keep up with their learning, build confidence in their skills, and develop good routines that set them up for the future. Every day at school matters—it helps your child stay on track and get the most out of their education.

It is also important to arrive at school on time. If a child arrives late to school every day, their learning begins to suffer. Below is a graph showing how being late to school every day over a school year adds up to lost learning time over one academic year.

Lunch Ordering
Please remember to order your child’s lunch before 10pm on a Wednesday. If your child only has a meal once a week, you will still need to book this.
We are still having a lot of children who do not have a lunch booked with no packed lunch. Please remember the default meal is always salad bar. No other option will be available.
Please remember not to order a school lunch if your child is on a school trip, where a packed lunch is required. If you have already booked a meal for this date, the meal can be cancelled by the payer until 10pm on a Wednesday for the following week. As all food is pre-ordered there will be no refunds issued for non-cancelled meals.
Nut Free School
A reminder that we are a nut free school. Please do not send your child to school with snacks/packed lunch with items containing nuts. This includes items such as Pesto, filled crepes and chocolate spread.
Social Media
We are now on Facebook. Please like our page, we will be using this page to celebrate events and learning moments taking place across the school. We encourage you to invite other parents and family members to join as well, so that too can be part of our vibrant school network. Rest assured, our Facebook page will prioritise the privacy and security of our children. We will follow all the necessary precautions and guidelines to protect identities and ensure a safe online environment.
Recording Absences
Studybugs is no longer in use. Please record any illnesses/medical appointments using the Arbor parent portal app. For planned absences please complete the online form on the attendance page of our website.
